  • 48% want more actionable, real-time info
  • 68% use external AI services like OpenAI

Nearly half of those surveyed believe RAG is critical to making information more actionable and accessible in real time. The appeal lies in RAG’s capacity to mitigate the limitations of traditional large language models by grounding AI responses in reliable, enterprise-specific data.

Additionally, the study shows that 

  • 68% of organizations using LLMs rely on external services like OpenAI, Claude, or Midjourney, 
  • while only 17% are using internally built models. 

As generative AI becomes more central to enterprise knowledge processes, RAG offers a bridge between off-the-shelf AI and proprietary intelligence.

The benefits enterprises are pursuing with RAG include 

  • improved contextual results (48%)
  • more actionable data (48%)
  • reduced time to insight (48%)
  • and better precision in search results (41%). 

Knowledge graphs are emerging as a foundation for Graph RAG implementations, valued for their ability to represent structured and unstructured data equally well.

Content creation, customer self-service, knowledge discovery, intelligent search, and dynamic content generation are leading the list of RAG-driven applications. Notably, 60% of organizations in production with LLMs cite content customization and customer self-service as primary use cases.

Despite growing enthusiasm, the path to successful RAG implementation comes with barriers. Challenges remain:

  • 52% struggle with understanding how RAG works
  • 41% cite cost as a barrier
  • 89% say human review is still essential

Security, hallucinations, and data quality remain top concerns. Still, the optimism is palpable. Many respondents believe that RAG, particularly when integrated with knowledge graphs and semantic technologies, will help generative AI reach enterprise-grade reliability and utility.

As one respondent put it, “RAG helps by making AI smarter and more efficient. It connects AI with our unique data to generate responses that are more accurate and contextually relevant.”

It behaves less like a search engine and more like a virtual analyst.
